The previous Great Plains Wildfire Colleges have
been tremendously successful; Northeastern Junior College has proven an
excellent facility for the Wildfire College. The 2005 College was extended
an extra day with more intermediate and advanced wildland fire courses
offered. Over 600 people from 30 US states and Canada attended the 2005
Wildfire College. Many agencies were represented including state fire departments,
Colorado State Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management,
National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs along with many other local
and state agencies. Colorado Fire Departments (including VFD’s) attended
with assistance provided by the Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) cost share
grant offered by the Colorado State Forest Service.
